DOT Drug and Alcohol Program

Don’t enroll with a Drug Consortium only willing to cover part of your FMCSA compliance, enroll your drivers into Johnson DOT Services DOT Drug Program to ensure they are covered for ALL FMCSA Drug test regulations. Per federal regulations the current annual test rate for drug pools is testing at minimum 50%-drug and 10%-alcohol.

Who Needs To Be Enrolled In A DOT Drug Program (Per 49 CFR parts 40 and 382)

  • CDL drivers

  • Drivers of vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers (including driver)

  • Drivers of commercial vehicles that require Hazardous Material placard

* Enrollment in Johnson DOT Services Drug Program allows your drivers to complete tests anywhere across the lower 48.

* Unlike many other providers we cover FMCSA Clearinghouse management as part of the enrollment.

Types of DOT Drug Tests

Pre-Employment

A pre-employment screening must be completed and negative results on file prior to the driver beginning operations.

Random

Drivers must be enrolled in a DOT Drug Program to be subject to the random annual test rates. Upon notification of selection the driver must immediately proceed to the testing site and remain there until completion of testing.

Post-Accident

In the event of an accident drug and alcohol screenings may, or may not need to be completed. Refer to the Post Accident Drug Screening flowchart.

Reasonable Suspicion

A trained supervisor observes indicators of probable use of drugs and requests that the driver complete a drug screening prior to returning to safety sensitive functions/driving.

Return to Duty

Drivers who have previously failed a drug test and are found fit to return to duty by their substance abuse professional are required to complete a return to duty drug screening under direct observation.

Follow-Up Testing

Drivers who have previously completed return to duty drug testing must meet the follow-up test plan created by the substance abuse professional. These tests are done under direct supervision and do not replace the need for enrollment in a DOT drug pool.

New companies MUST complete an Enrollment Agreement.
